Historically Famous Bedellas

Brigid, born in Ireland about 455, became so beloved for her charity and her mircle working powers that it is hard to piece together any factual account of her life. She was born near Dundalk and founded a monestary at Kildare before her death in 523.

Bridget, born in Sweden nearly a 1000 years later than irish Brigid, she could not have had a more different life. Born into a wealthy family her marriage produced eight children one of whom was also canonized. Bridget had a place at court and after she was widowed became a mystic and writer whose advice was accepted by kings and popes. Bridget travelled the known world eventually settling in Rome helping the poor. She passsed away in 1373.
