The martyr of the Diocletian persecution is a Christian heroine of a romance. The story goes that she was a beautiful girl of Cappadocia (Thrkey) who was sentenced to death. As she was being led out to execution, a lawyer, Theophilus, jeered at her, asking her to send him fruit and flowers from the heavenly garden. After her death, a child appeared to him with a basket of roses and apples, adding - ominously - that Dorothy was waiting for him in the garden. Theophilus was converted, and immediately executed too
