Historically Famous KirstensSt Christina the Astonishing is the most famous of several canonized Christinas, due to her peculiar psychic phenomena, all written down at the time by Cardinal James de Vitry. She was born in Liege, Belgium, in 1150; after a near-death experience - from which she 'awoke' at her own funeral Mass - she flew up into the rafters of the church, in disgust at the garlic-laden breath of the congregation. After her visions of hell and purgatory, she decided to give her life to prayer for the liberation of souls in purgatory, but the hypersensitivity to smell (especially the smell of men) never left her, and she went to extraordinary lengths (and heights) to avoid them. |
