Historically Famous Matildas

Matilda was a German queen, the wife of Henry I and mother of Emperor Otto I, Henry 'the Quarrelsome', St Bruno, Archbishop of Cologne, and others. After the death of her husband, she lived for another 32 years at the mercy of Otto and Henry's unkindness. Her compassion for the poor and her devotion to the Church particularly annoyed them, but it earned her, at the very least, the love of her people.
