Historically Famous Ronnies

'Veronica' is an anagram of 'vera icon' or 'true image' and the name has become associated with the story of the woman of Jerusalem who stopped Jesus on his way to crucifixion and wiped his bloody, perspiring face with her handkerchief. As a miraculous reward for her compassion, Jesus' features were imprinted on the cloth, which is kept as a precious relic in St Peter's, Rome. Some people believe that Veronica was also the woman with the 'issue of blood' whom Jesus healed, others that the liturgical veil called the 'vernicle' eventually became personified as a woman called Veronica. However it may be, Veronica herself has become a true image of compassion in her own right, and a beautiful picture in the otherwise brutal story of the Crucifixion.
