Historically Famous Vitas
There is a second-century martyr named Victor, who was a soldier in the Roman army, and supposed to have been beheaded in Milan in 303.
Another Victor, of Marseilles (also a soldier in that army), became a Christian and was martyred sometime during the third century. Little is known about him, but the tradition is that he underwent the most frightful tortures, being strengthened by the presence of Christ and hosts of angels. When he was taken to bow down before pagan gods, Victor merely kicked them over, and had his foot cut off before he was finally beheaded
