Commemorating the 75th Anniversary of VE day in 2020

We’ll this is a post I didn’t expect to write, celebrating the anniversary of the beginning of the end of World War 2 whilst not being allowed the freedom to go out. Strange times to say the least.

Perhaps we can look forward to celebrating a VoC day (Victory over Covid-19) in the very near future.

The 75th anniversary of VE Day, which marks the end of the Second World War in Europe, takes place this year on Friday, 8 May, 2020.

Due to the COVID 19 lockdown, plans to commemorate and celebrate this momentous occasion have had to change, with national events postponed.

We’ve a few ideas here that may help you celebrate the event the event within the confines of your home this could include decorating a poster, creating bunting for your garden, cooking a menu using war time recipes or downloading a 1940s’ playlist.

The official Music charts did not exist at this time although many lists were offered by different organisations, claiming to be the defacto list.

We’ve a selection of hit songs from the original artists of the year available should you want an authentic sound for the year.

We’re off to dig out my Nan’s recipe book’s for some authentic recipes from the 1940’s

Whilst not from the original celebrations, in fact these are 1977 and the queen’s Silver Jubilee, I thought these pictures of Happier times may cheer your up a bit. Would love to see any from the original celebration if anyone has some.
