Historically Famous Kierans
St Kieran, or Ciaran, was another Irish saint. He was born in Co. Meath and was sent as a boy to become a monk in St Finnian's monastery. From there, he went to study under St Enda, and then left to found his own monastery at Clonmacnoise, Co, Offaly, which later became one of the greatest of Ireland's places of holiness and learning. He died in about 549; literally, just before his death, he seemed to be coming to life again - perhaps one of the earliest recorded near-death experiences.
